GOR ULTIMA CLIENT OPTIONS GUIDE
Understanding the settings, interface controls, audio options, profiles, and quality-of-life features available in GorClient.

GorClient includes a large number of customization options that allow you to adjust how the world is displayed, how containers behave, how information appears on screen, how you move, how combat information is presented, and how your individual character profiles are stored.

Many of these options come from the enhanced client platform used by Gor Ultima and go considerably beyond the settings available in the original Ultima Online client.

Important: Most options are saved automatically to your GorClient profile. Different characters may have their own individual profile settings, while some settings are shared globally across the client.

Getting Started

The Options menu controls most of GorClient's visual, gameplay, sound, container, interface, and quality-of-life features.

Because GorClient contains many more settings than the original Ultima Online client, the available options are divided into several categories.

Tip: If you know the name of the setting you are looking for, use the Options search function rather than manually browsing every category.

Some changes take effect immediately. Others may require the affected gump, container, or interface element to be reopened before the change becomes obvious.

Global Settings
Settings that affect GorClient generally, such as audio and some display behavior.
Character Profiles
Individual characters may have their own interface, gump, macro, container, and gameplay preferences.
Default Profiles
A preferred profile can be used as the starting configuration for newly created characters.

Video

The Video section controls the game window, viewport, frame rate, scaling, lighting, shadows, weather, transparency, and several visual effects.

Game Window

FPS Cap limits the maximum number of frames GorClient renders each second.

Reduce FPS when inactive lowers resource usage when GorClient is not the active window.

Enable VSync synchronizes rendered frames with the monitor refresh cycle and may reduce visible screen tearing.

Fullsize viewport allows the game viewport to occupy the available client area.

Fullscreen (borderless) places GorClient into borderless fullscreen mode.

Borderless window (no title bar) removes the standard Windows title bar while remaining windowed.

Lock viewport prevents accidental movement or resizing of the configured gameplay viewport.

The client also provides manual controls for:

  • Viewport X
  • Viewport Y
  • Viewport Width
  • Viewport Height
Zoom & Scaling

Default zoom controls the standard world zoom level.

Enable mousewheel zoom allows the mouse wheel to control the world zoom.

Return to default zoom after unpressing Ctrl allows temporary zooming without permanently changing the preferred zoom.

Scale overheads with zoom causes names, health bars, and overhead text to scale along with the world.

Separate scaling controls are available for:

  • Paperdolls
  • Status gumps
  • Skills gumps
  • Context menus
  • Trade gumps
  • Server gumps
  • Global interface scaling
Lighting

Available lighting options include:

  • Alternative lights
  • Custom light level
  • Absolute or Minimum custom lighting
  • Dark nights
  • Colored lights
  • Candle flicker

Players who prefer the intended atmosphere should generally avoid forcing an excessively bright custom light level.

Additional Visual Features

The Video section also contains controls for:

  • Shadows
  • Rock and tree shadows
  • Terrain shadow level
  • Animated water
  • Enhanced weather
  • Enhanced weather particle effects
  • Post-processing effects
  • Circle of transparency
  • Perspective
  • Death screen behavior
  • Black and white display while dead
  • Automatic screenshots on death

Sound & Music

GorClient separates sound effects and music so they may be enabled and adjusted independently.

Enable sound controls normal game sound effects.

Enable music controls background music.

Enable login page music determines whether music plays on the login screens.

Play footsteps enables character footstep sounds.

Play rain sound controls weather-related rain audio.

Combat music determines whether the special combat soundtrack is allowed to play while entering combat or War Mode.

For Gor Ultima combat music: both Enable music and Combat music should be enabled. Music volume must also be above zero.

Play sound when UO is not in focus controls whether audio continues while another program or window is active.

GorClient also contains optional voice-to-text functionality for players who choose to configure it.

Gameplay

The Gameplay category contains settings relating to combat presentation, mobiles, movement, terrain, statics, equipment layers, and several miscellaneous gameplay aids.

Terrain & Statics

Hide roof removes roof tiles where supported, making interior areas easier to see.

Vegetation to stumps replaces obstructive vegetation with less intrusive stump graphics.

Only within circle of transparency radius limits vegetation replacement to the nearby viewing area.

Hide vegetation provides a more aggressive option for removing obstructive vegetation.

Magic field type allows magic fields to be displayed using different visual styles:

  • Normal
  • Static
  • Tile

Apply border to cave tiles can make cave terrain boundaries easier to distinguish.

Health Warning

Health bar indicator can display a red screen-edge warning while your character is taking damage.

The threshold can be controlled through Only show below hp %, and the size of the effect can also be adjusted.

Movement

GorClient provides several optional movement systems beyond traditional Ultima Online mouse movement.

Always run causes normal movement to use running speed whenever possible.

Unless hidden prevents automatic running while the character is hidden.

Enable pathfinding allows the client to calculate a route toward a selected location.

Additional pathfinding controls include:

  • Use shift for pathfinding
  • Single click for pathfinding

Automatically open doors can open nearby doors as the character approaches them.

Optional door behavior includes:

  • While pathfinding
  • While hidden
  • Also close doors
  • Block walking into closed doors

Auto Avoid Obstacles allows the client to attempt to navigate around certain obstructions automatically.

Use WASD movement instead of arrow keys enables keyboard movement using the familiar W, A, S, and D keys.

WASD users: If you prefer keyboard movement, this is the primary setting to enable.

Auto follow allows the client to follow another mobile automatically.

The client also includes:

  • Auto follow distance
  • Disable Alt-click to auto follow
  • Adjust turn delay
  • Controller input
  • Controller mouse sensitivity

Combat

Combat options control War Mode behavior, target indicators, criminal-action confirmation, buff information, and several targeting conveniences.

Hold tab for combat changes how the Tab key interacts with War Mode.

Query before attack asks for confirmation before certain potentially unwanted attacks.

Query before beneficial acts on murderers/criminals/gray provides similar protection for beneficial actions that could affect your notoriety or criminal status.

Show target indicator displays a visual indicator for the current target.

Show buff duration on old style buff bar displays remaining durations when using the older buff interface.

War Mode and Combat Music: Entering War Mode may trigger GorClient's combat soundtrack when Enable music and Combat music are enabled.

GorClient also contains dedicated spell options for spell icons, overhead spell information, spell hotkeys, and spell indicators.

Containers

One of GorClient's largest enhancements is its advanced container system.

Players may choose between more traditional Ultima Online containers and newer grid-based inventory views.

Container Style

Container Style determines the preferred general container presentation.

Corpse Container Style separately controls how corpses are displayed.

Character backpack style provides several backpack appearances:

  • Default
  • Suede
  • Polar bear
  • Ghoul skin

Use large container gumps enables larger versions of supported original container windows.

Original Container Features

Available quality-of-life options include:

  • Double click to loot items inside containers
  • Relative drag and drop items in containers
  • Highlight container on ground when mouse is over a container gump
  • Recolor container gump with container hue
  • Override container gump locations
  • Remember each container
  • Container scale
  • Also scale items
Grid Containers

Grid containers provide a more structured inventory view.

Options include:

  • Default container view
  • Grid view
  • List view
  • Search style
  • Enable container preview
  • Make anchorable
  • Disable targeting grid containers
  • Grid container scale
  • Also scale items
  • Highlight low contrast items
  • Minimum item contrast level
  • Grid item border opacity
  • Border color
  • Container opacity
  • Background color
  • Use container's hue
  • Hide borders
  • Default grid rows
  • Default grid columns

Tip: Players who prefer the traditional Ultima Online appearance can continue using original containers. Players managing large inventories may find grid containers considerably easier to organize.

Gumps & Interface

A gump is an Ultima Online interface window, such as a status window, skills window, vendor window, paperdoll, spellbook, or server-provided menu.

GorClient contains several settings for controlling how these windows behave.

Require Alt to close anchored gumps protects anchored interface groups from accidental closing.

Require Alt to move gumps can prevent accidental interface movement.

Close entire group of anchored gumps with right click allows grouped windows to be dismissed together.

Use original skills gump switches back to the traditional Ultima Online skills display.

Use old status gump enables the older character status interface.

Show party invite gump controls the dedicated party invitation window.

Enable improved buff gump enables GorClient's enhanced buff display.

Enable advanced shop gump enables the enhanced vendor/shop interface where supported.

Use modern color picker replaces the older color selection interface.

Enable gump opacity adjust via Alt + Scroll allows interface transparency to be adjusted directly.

Mobiles & Health Bars

Mobiles are players, creatures, monsters, NPCs, and other living entities displayed in the game world.

GorClient offers extensive controls over how they are highlighted and how their health information is shown.

Mobile Highlighting

Options include:

  • Show incoming mobile names
  • Show incoming corpse names
  • Highlight poisoned mobiles
  • Highlight paralyzed mobiles
  • Highlight invulnerable mobiles
  • Show aura under feet
  • Custom party-member aura color
  • Hue mobiles by notoriety

Player visibility options also allow different opacity or hues to be used for hidden and visible characters.

Health Information

Always show name/title above mobiles keeps mobile identity information visible.

Show mobile's HP enables health information beneath or near mobiles.

Health may be displayed as:

  • Percentage
  • Bar
  • Both

The client can determine when the information is shown:

  • Always
  • Less than 100%
  • Smart
Draggable Health Bars

Additional health-bar options include:

  • Use modern health bar gumps
  • Use black background
  • Save health bars on logout
  • Automatically close health bars
  • Automatically open health bars for last attack
  • Update one bar as last attack
  • Enable drag select for health bars
  • Anchor opened health bars together

Chat & Speech

The Chat and Speech options control speech display, overhead text, journal behavior, chat colors, and several input conveniences.

Speech colors may be individually configured for:

  • Normal speech
  • Yell
  • Party
  • Alliance
  • Emote
  • Whisper
  • Guild
  • Character/system information

Options are also available to hide certain chat channels or message types.

Display party chat over player heads allows party messages to appear directly above party members.

Disable mouse interactions for overhead text prevents overhead text from interfering with clicking or targeting objects beneath it.

The client can also suppress selected types of overhead messages such as:

  • Regular
  • System
  • Emote
  • Spell
  • Guild
  • Whisper
  • Yell
Journal

The enhanced journal provides controls for:

  • Maximum journal entries
  • Journal opacity
  • Journal style
  • Journal background color
  • Hide borders
  • Transparency while inactive
  • Hide timestamp
  • Hide system prefix
  • Make journal anchorable
  • Save journal to file

Tooltips

Tooltips are the information windows shown when the mouse rests over an object, item, or mobile.

Enable tooltips controls whether they are displayed.

Tooltip delay determines how long the mouse must remain over something before its tooltip appears.

Players may also customize:

  • Tooltip background
  • Tooltip opacity
  • Tooltip font
  • Tooltip color
  • Background hue
  • Left alignment
  • Centered mobile tooltips
  • Forced tooltips
  • Item-name header format

GorClient also supports tooltip overrides for players who want more advanced control over displayed item information.

Skill Gain Notifications

GorClient provides two separate settings for skill-change notifications.

They are located within the Misc options.

Show skills changed messages

Controls the normal text notification that appears when a skill increases or decreases.

Disable this if you do not want textual skill-gain notifications.

Display progress bar on skill changes

Controls the visual skill progress bar that appears when a skill changes.

Disable this option if you do not want the skill-gain progress visual appearing on screen.

The progress display also has a configurable text format. It can use:

  • Skill name
  • Current skill value
  • Skill cap

For players who want no skill-gain popups at all:

Disable Show skills changed messages
and
Disable Display progress bar on skill changes.

Miscellaneous

The Misc section contains several useful settings that do not fit cleanly into the other categories.

Common options include:

Hide "screenshot stored in" message — suppresses the confirmation message after taking a screenshot.

Enable object fading — allows world objects to fade where appropriate.

Enable text fading — allows temporary text to fade naturally.

Show target range indicator — provides a visual indication of targeting distance.

Show stats changed messages — displays notifications when Strength, Dexterity, or Intelligence change.

Show skills changed messages — displays textual skill-change notifications.

Require Shift to open context menus — reduces accidental context-menu opening.

Require Shift to split stacks of items — adds a modifier requirement when splitting stacks.

Highlight objects under cursor — makes the object currently beneath the mouse easier to identify.

No color for out of range objects — changes how unreachable objects are visually presented.

Show house content — controls supported house-content visibility.

Smooth boat movements — improves the visual movement of boats.

Enable Auto-Resync hang detection — allows the client to attempt automatic recovery when network activity appears to have stalled.

Enable ASync map loading — enables asynchronous map-loading behavior.

Enable house transparency — controls transparency behavior for supported houses.

Experimental Controls

Advanced users may also find options for disabling certain traditional Ultima Online input behaviors:

  • Disable default UO hotkeys
  • Disable arrow and numlock-arrow player movement
  • Disable Tab toggling War Mode
  • Disable Ctrl+Q/W message history
  • Disable Right+Left click auto-move

Caution: Experimental controls can substantially change familiar Ultima Online input behavior. Change them individually so you know which setting caused a difference.

Profiles & Saved Settings

GorClient supports individual character profiles so different characters can maintain different layouts and preferences.

This can include such things as:

  • Character-specific gameplay options
  • Gump layouts
  • Macros
  • Skill groups
  • Grid-container configuration
  • Health-bar behavior
  • Hotkeys
  • Interface preferences
Settings Transfers

The Profile section provides tools for copying one character's configuration to other profiles.

Available controls include:

Override other profiles with this one — copies the current profile settings to other character profiles.

Override other profiles on this same server with this one — limits the operation to characters belonging to the same server.

Override other profiles' macros with this one — separately copies macros.

Set this profile as the default for new characters — makes the current configuration the starting point for future characters.

Set this profile's macros as the default for new characters — does the same specifically for macros.

Warning: Profile override functions intentionally replace settings in other profiles. Use them only when you actually want multiple characters to share the same configuration.

Some profile components are intentionally maintained separately, including certain macro, skill-group, info-bar, grid-container, and gump-position data.

Troubleshooting
A Setting Seems to Reset

Exit GorClient normally after changing settings so the client has an opportunity to save its current profile.

If only one character appears affected, confirm that you are changing the option while logged into the intended character profile.

If several characters use different profiles, remember that changing an option on one character does not necessarily change it for every character.

Music Works but Combat Music Does Not

Verify:

  • Enable music is enabled.
  • Combat music is enabled.
  • Music volume is above zero.

Gor Ultima's client package contains separate combat music used when entering War Mode.

The Interface Became Too Large or Too Small

Check the Video section for:

  • Global scaling
  • Paperdoll scaling
  • Status gump scaling
  • Skills gump scaling
  • Server gump scaling
  • Container scaling
  • Grid-container scaling

Different interface systems can have independent scaling values.

Containers Open Differently Than Expected

Check both:

  • Container Style
  • Corpse Container Style

Grid containers and normal containers maintain several independent presentation settings.

Skill Gain Bar Keeps Appearing

Open the Misc options and disable:

Display progress bar on skill changes

If you also want to remove the accompanying text message, disable:

Show skills changed messages
