Evolved Skills
- NOTOC**
The Evolved Skills System expands normal skill progression in Gor Ultima.
As the base value of a supported skill increases, that skill gains an Evolution Level. Important milestones also replace the ordinary skill name with a specialized title that reflects the character's growing mastery.
For example, Swords can progress from its normal name into Keen Edge, Swift Cleave, Battle Tempo, and finally Blade Master.
Evolution is automatic. There is no separate experience bar to grind, no currency to collect, and no evolution points to spend. Continue training the skill normally and its evolution grows with it.
Temporary bonuses from equipment, spells, racial bonuses, or other effects do not raise your Evolution Level or unlock a higher evolved title. Your evolution remains stable when temporary bonuses appear or expire.
|
Automatic Progression
A supported skill gains one Evolution Level for every 10.0 points of base skill. No additional action is required from the player.
|
Ten Evolution Levels
Evolution begins at Level 1 when the skill reaches 10.0 and reaches its maximum of Level 10 at 100.0 base skill.
|
Specialized Titles
The displayed name evolves at 40.0, 60.0, 80.0, and 100.0. These names appear in the custom Skills window and the Level window.
|
| Base Skill | Evolution Level | Display |
|---|---|---|
| 0.0–9.9 | Level 0 | Normal skill name |
| 10.0–19.9 | Level 1 | Normal skill name |
| 20.0–29.9 | Level 2 | Normal skill name |
| 30.0–39.9 | Level 3 | Normal skill name |
| 40.0–49.9 | Level 4 | First evolved title |
| 50.0–59.9 | Level 5 | First evolved title |
| 60.0–69.9 | Level 6 | Second evolved title |
| 70.0–79.9 | Level 7 | Second evolved title |
| 80.0–89.9 | Level 8 | Third evolved title |
| 90.0–99.9 | Level 9 | Third evolved title |
| 100.0 or higher | Level 10 | Master evolved title |
Skills may continue above 100.0 when their cap allows it, but Evolved Skill progression stops at Evolution Level 10. A skill at 110.0 or 120.0 does not receive additional Evolution Levels beyond the mastery reached at 100.0.
|
Swords, Fencing, Macing, Archery, Throwing, Wrestling, and Parry use their Evolution Levels when determining weapon mastery tiers and special combat opportunities. Higher trained weapon skills provide stronger access to their associated mastery behavior.
|
Magery, Evaluating Intelligence, Meditation, Focus, Necromancy, Spirit Speak, Chivalry, and other supporting skills contribute Evolution Levels to Arcana power, spell stability, resource efficiency, and school-specific support.
|
|
Evolved Magery and Evaluating Intelligence improve the chance and strength of lineage effects produced by advanced wands. The better trained the caster, the more effectively the wand can express its lineage.
|
Companion Systems
Evolved Animal Lore contributes additional effective handling knowledge within companion growth systems. Each Animal Lore Evolution Level adds to the effective value used there, up to the system's normal limit.
|
The visible title changes only at major milestones, but connected systems can read the full Evolution Level.
A character with 50.0 Swords is not identical to one with 40.0 Swords simply because both display the first Swords title. The first character has Evolution Level 5, while the second has Evolution Level 4.
The title shows the broader stage of mastery. The Evolution Level preserves the smaller steps between those stages.
When a skill reaches 40.0, 60.0, 80.0, or 100.0 base value, you receive a message announcing that the old skill name has evolved into its new title. A positive sound accompanies the advancement.
If the base skill later falls below one of those thresholds, the skill can devolve to its previous title. Its Evolution Level and any connected benefits are recalculated from the new base value.
This can happen when a skill is set to decrease and another skill gain causes normal skill-cap atrophy.
|
Skills Window
Open the custom Skills window to see each supported skill under its current evolved title. Its numerical value and cap remain visible beside the title.
|
Level Window
Skills shown in the Level window also use their current evolved names. This makes it easier to recognize your present stage while spending normal character skill points.
|
|
Evolved Skills
Progress automatically from the base value of each individual skill. They provide Evolution Levels, changing titles, and scaling used by connected systems. There are no choices to purchase.
|
Gain separate tree experience when linked skills improve. Tree points are then spent on selected progression nodes. This is a choice-based system with branches and ranks.
|
• Evolved Skills progress automatically as base skills rise.
• Temporary skill bonuses do not increase Evolution Levels.
• You do not need to activate, select, or purchase an evolution.
• The maximum Evolution Level is 10 at 100.0 base skill.
• Skills above 100.0 retain Level 10 rather than gaining additional levels.
• Losing base skill can lower the Evolution Level and return the skill to an earlier title.
• Different systems may use the same Evolution Level in different ways.
• Evolved Skills and Skill Evolution Trees are separate systems.
