Achievement Progress
Many achievements within the Achievement System are built around goals that develop over time.
Defeating one creature may be the beginning of a hunting achievement.
Mining one piece of ore may become the first step toward a gathering milestone.
Crafting one item, discovering one dungeon, completing one Pet Fusion, or venturing onto the water may begin a much longer journey.
Achievement Progress records those steps.
Long-term achievements can accumulate progress as your character continues playing, allowing major accomplishments to develop naturally over the course of an entire character's life.
|
An achievement defines a particular accomplishment, such as defeating a number of enemies, gathering resources, crafting items, discovering locations, or reaching another measurable milestone.
|
Each qualifying action advances the achievement. Progress continues to accumulate until the required goal has been reached.
|
When the required amount or condition is reached, the achievement is completed and becomes part of the character's accomplishment history.
|
Most achievement progress is recorded automatically when a qualifying action occurs.
Depending upon the achievement, progress may increase when you:
• defeat a particular creature or enemy family
• defeat another player
• defeat a player-controlled companion
• discover a dungeon or hidden area
• gather a supported resource
• successfully craft an item
• increase a skill to a required milestone
• accumulate wealth
• complete a Pet Fusion
• perform a specialized fusion feat
• cast maritime nets
• recover maritime salvage
• complete maritime contracts
• reach Sea Legs milestones
• perform an unusual combat or equipment feat
You generally do not need to visit an NPC and announce that you defeated your fiftieth dragon or gathered another piece of ore. When the supported action is recognized, the Achievement System can update the appropriate progress automatically.
|
These achievements count repeated actions, such as defeating enemies, gathering resources, crafting items, completing fusions, or performing maritime activities.
|
These achievements remember distinct places or discoveries rather than simply counting the same action repeatedly.
|
These achievements complete when the character reaches a particular value or milestone, such as a skill level, wealth total, Sea Legs rank, or another progression threshold.
|
|
Some achievements are earned through one qualifying event, such as dealing an exceptional amount of damage in a single strike.
|
Some achievements watch for unusual circumstances, combinations, emergencies, or specialized interactions that cannot be measured by a simple counter alone.
|
Consider the combat achievement:
Dragonbane
Slay 50 formidable Dragons.
The first qualifying dragon defeated begins the progress:
1 / 50
Defeat another:
2 / 50
Continue hunting over time:
17 / 50
Eventually:
49 / 50
When the fiftieth qualifying dragon is defeated:
50 / 50
The achievement is complete.
The fifty dragons do not need to be defeated in a single hunt. Each qualifying victory contributes toward the long-term goal.
Some activities have multiple achievements representing increasingly difficult milestones.
For example, a player may begin exploring the world's dangerous places.
One achievement may recognize the discovery of:
10 dungeons and hidden areas
A greater achievement may require:
50 discoveries
The largest exploration achievement may require discovering:
all 85 known dungeons and hidden areas
Completing an earlier milestone does not mean the journey has ended.
The same activity can continue contributing toward larger achievements.
Dungeon and exploration achievements can track the places a character has discovered.
This type of progress is different from a simple kill or crafting counter.
The important accomplishment is discovering different locations.
For example:
• discover one dungeon
• discover another hidden area
• explore a distant ruin
• enter another previously undiscovered dangerous location
The character gradually builds a personal record of exploration.
Returning to the same known place may still be valuable for adventuring, but the achievement is interested in expanding the number of places the character has discovered.
Gathering Achievements can track resources collected over time.
Different resources may have achievements of their own.
A character may gradually build progress through:
• mining ore
• harvesting wood
• collecting hides and leather
• gathering scales
• finding rare or advanced resources
A long-term gathering achievement represents persistence.
The first resource begins the record.
The hundredth continues it.
The thousandth may still be another step toward a far greater milestone.
Crafting Achievements can advance when supported items are successfully created.
Different professions maintain their own areas of accomplishment.
These include categories associated with:
• cloth and leather work
• metalworking
• jewelry
• tinkering
• woodworking
• cooking
• alchemy and physician work
This allows an artisan to build an achievement history through years of work rather than requiring every character to pursue combat achievements.
Progression Achievements can recognize a character who develops a supported skill to 100.0 base skill.
For these achievements, the character is gradually moving toward the milestone as the skill develops:
42.7
61.3
84.9
99.9
Finally:
100.0
The skill reaches Grandmaster level and the corresponding achievement can be completed.
This allows the Achievement System to permanently recognize the same long-term dedication represented by Skill Proficiency and Evolved Skills.
Pet Fusion Achievements demonstrate several different forms of progress.
Some count completed fusions:
First Binding
Complete your first Pet Fusion.
Fusion Adept
Complete 10 Pet Fusions.
Fusion Master
Complete 50 Pet Fusions.
Other achievements watch for particular conditions:
• completing a Spirit Speak special fusion path
• achieving particularly high affinity
• completing an unusual low-affinity pairing
• safely separating fused pets
• experiencing an emergency fusion separation
This means achievement progress can recognize both repetition and memorable events.
Maritime Achievements can advance through several different activities.
Progress may come from:
• casting maritime nets
• working the water repeatedly
• finding rare hauls
• salvaging wrecks
• completing maritime contracts
• increasing Sea Legs progression
• recovering exceptional prizes from dangerous waters
A character does not become a Master Mariner through one voyage.
Maritime achievement progress records the many experiences that gradually establish a character as someone who truly belongs upon the water.
A single action can sometimes matter to several forms of progression.
For example, defeating a dangerous creature may contribute to:
• a combat achievement
• character or class progression
• a daily quest
• a community milestone
• loot or resource progression
• another system connected to that encounter
The Achievement System does not need to replace those other systems.
It provides another way to remember that the accomplishment happened.
Progress toward supported long-term achievements is stored with the character so the journey can continue over time.
A player may begin an achievement today and finish it much later.
For example:
Day One: 7 / 100 creatures defeated
Later: 28 / 100
Much Later: 74 / 100
Eventually: 100 / 100
The achievement is completed when the goal is finally reached.
|
The achievement is marked complete once all required progress or conditions have been satisfied.
|
The achievement's point value becomes part of the character's total Achievement Points.
|
When supported by the achievement, additional rewards may also be granted for completing the accomplishment.
|
A counter such as:
37 / 100
is easy to understand.
Other achievements work differently.
Heavy Hitter may complete when the character deals enough damage in a single melee hit.
Lucky Strike may complete when the character reaches the required amount of equipped Luck.
A Pet Fusion achievement may require a particular affinity or special fusion path.
A maritime achievement may require finding a particular kind of rare haul.
These achievements may remain incomplete until the exact required condition occurs.
Use:
[Achievements
to open the Achievement System.
From there, you can review achievement categories and see the accomplishments your character is working toward.
The journal provides a place to review:
• available achievements
• current progress
• completed achievements
• achievement categories
• total Achievement Points
The journal allows you to actively pursue particular goals or simply return occasionally to see what your adventures have accomplished without you even realizing it.
|
Open the Achievement Journal, choose a particular accomplishment, and deliberately work toward completing it. Hunt the required enemies. Search for undiscovered dungeons. Gather the needed resources. Work toward a Grandmaster skill. Build progress with a particular destination in mind. |
Ignore the numbers and simply live your character's life. Adventure. Craft. Gather. Fight. Explore. Sail. When you return to the Achievement Journal later, you may discover that your normal journey has already brought several goals close to completion. |
