Custom Class System
The Custom Class System gives characters in Gor Ultima a stronger identity beyond the individual skills shown on the character sheet.
A class represents a style of play, a collection of important supporting skills, and a specialized class identity that can connect to the shard's larger progression systems. Some classes focus on direct combat. Others specialize in magic, companions, stealth, support, crafting, wilderness survival, or combinations of several disciplines.
A Knight and a Berserker may both know how to wield a weapon, but they are not intended to grow in the same direction. A Mage, Warlock, and Elementalist may all command supernatural power, yet each approaches magic through a different identity. A Tinker, Alchemist, and Engineer may share crafting knowledge while using it for entirely different purposes.
Classes are designed to give purpose and direction to character growth while connecting combat, crafting, magic, companions, and other shard systems into a larger progression path.
|
Each class is built around a recognizable role. A Knight is an oath-bound protector, a Berserker is a momentum-driven rage fighter, a Hunter follows beasts and monsters, and an Alchemist specializes in tactical mixtures and potion-based play.
|
Every class has a collection of important skills that support its intended identity. These may include combat skills, magic, crafting, healing, stealth, wilderness knowledge, animal skills, or other disciplines depending upon the class.
|
Classes can possess named systems that represent their unique style of play, such as Knightly Oath, Rage Meter, Arcane Charge, Wild Arcana, Spirit Totems, Experimental Mixtures, or other specialized mechanics.
|
|
Classes possess their own long-term progression. As a class develops, its level becomes a measure of the character's experience and dedication to that particular path.
|
A class becomes Mastered at Level 100. Mastery is the major completion milestone for a class and allows its identity to contribute toward the character's greater long-term progression.
|
Progress does not have to end at Level 100. Levels beyond mastery become prestige growth, providing room for continued stat development, scaling, and future class-specific progression without being required for the main mastery unlock.
|
Class Bonus Systems are specialized progression systems connected to class identity.
When a character is actively following a class, that class may provide access to its associated bonus system. These systems can be much deeper than a passive increase to damage or statistics. They may introduce new interfaces, resources, abilities, companions, progression tracks, or mechanics built around the purpose of the class.
The Summoner is one of the clearest examples. Rather than receiving only a simple summoning bonus, the class connects to persistent summoned companions, family-based progression, Spiritbond, summon levels, and evolution powers.
As more class systems are developed, mastering a class can also make its specialized identity available through the long-term Jack of All Trades path.
Jack of All Trades is the long-term reward for characters who dedicate themselves to mastering multiple classes.
Every mastered class contributes toward this broader progression path. When an expanded class with its own dedicated Class Bonus System has been mastered, that class's specialized system can become available to the Jack of All Trades.
This creates a long-term reason to explore classes outside of a single preferred role. A character may begin as a warrior, later study magic, learn a craft, master the wilderness, or pursue other disciplines. Each completed path becomes part of the character's greater history.
Jack of All Trades is intended to be broad without making individual class mastery meaningless. Mastery grants access, while prestige progression can provide smaller continued improvements after the main class has already been completed.

The class system is intended to interact with the wider progression of Gor Ultima.
Depending upon the class and its supporting skills, a character may find connections to:
• Evolved Skills and Skill Proficiency
• Class Bonus Systems
• Jack of All Trades
• Summoner Progression
• Esper Companions
• Wands and Wandcraft
• Enhanced Spell Systems
• Magical Meals
• Weapon Mastery and Evolution
• crafting, gathering, combat, and other specialized progression systems
This means that developing a class can influence much more than a single combat bonus. It can become the foundation upon which an entire character is built.
